My Story

Hello! My name is Latavia and I am a licensed clinical social worker who is dedicated to assisting people in realizing their potential and achieving their goals. I sit with my clients as an interactive listener and a source of support as I believe in people’s ability to persevere and overcome life’s challenges. My background is in sociology/anthropology, Russian, and clinical social work with an emphasis in international social welfare, but I am currently pursuing a PhD in international psychology concentrating in trauma. These studies have helped me to work with people from many different backgrounds and circumstances. I value and appreciate them all seeing enduring strengths and resiliency with whomever I sit with. It is my hope that my clients learn to see their own strengths, successes, and protective and resiliency factors, so that they can fully live and engage in life.

I have lived and studied in Eastern Europe, Central Asia, and Africa as traveling and culture have been two of my passions. Exposure to other people and places have greatly informed the work that I do. I have worked with troubled children and teenagers, immigrants, refugees, people with disabilities, and people who were in crisis or who have struggled with anxiety, depression, trauma, and severe mental illness. No matter what the case, there is no judgment - just understanding, compassion and empathy. Life is hard and feeling alone and judged in situations does not help anyone reach their goals. I aim to create a safe therapeutic space, even if it is virtual. I encourage you to pour out whatever you have been stuffing inside and/or avoiding, so that you can find freedom from it.

I have an eclectic approach to therapy, so I pull from different treatment modalities to support, aid, and challenge my clients. I use cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), solution-focused therapy, the Grief Recovery Method and mindfulness amongst others to help clients on their journey towards wholeness.

Let me join you on this walk. Although there may be a lot of work ahead, my hope is that you feel confident to step forward and know that there are times and spaces of safety and restoration. You do not have to be alone.
